All appointments are allocated 40 minutes- this will allow time for a comprehensive assessment of your problem and treatment, along with any advice needed regarding self-help and or exercises.

Pleases note to ensure you are assessed properly it may be necessary for you to remove some outer clothing- so wearing comfortable clothes  that allow access to your area of pain is a good idea. For example, you may wish to wear or bring a pair of shorts with you if you have a knee problem.

For information about hydrotherapy treatment, please call 07505 742 969 and discuss your requirements.

What to expect from your first appointment

You will be offered an appointment at a time that best suits you: this may be day time when the children are at school or you may prefer the evening after work. To be able to help you with your problem, you will first need to be assessed.  The more thorough and comprehensive the assessment, the better the outcome of treatment is likely to be.  This is why all appointments last up to forty minutes.

You will be asked a million and one questions-and honestly they are all relevant! Then you will have an examination, which may require you removing some outer layers of clothing (rest assured your dignity will be maintained throughout.)You are very welcome to bring a pair of shorts with you if you would be more comfortable- but this isn’t necessary, so please don’t feel you have to rush out and buy a little lycra number for the occasion!

After your examination, findings will be discussed with you and a treatment plan outlined and initiated and any home exercises explained and demonstrated. Finally, specific advice and ‘dos and don’ts’ will be discussed and any ‘pearls of wisdom’ about your problem will be shared with you.  For example, if your back is always at its worst first thing in the morning, it may be that your mattress is contributing to the problem.  This may be solved by simply putting a duvet on top of your mattress and under your bottom sheet.

An additional point to note, should your examination highlight the need for you to have further investigations, possibly with an orthopaedic consultant or your G.P. or input from podiatry or pilates, Michelle will readily liaise with her colleges in the area on your behalf, thus ensuring a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to your treatment.

Michelle graduated from the Queen Elizabeth School of Physiotherapy in Birmingham in 1989. She went on to work at York District Hospital, where she specialised in treating out patients and musculoskeletal disorders.  Whilst in York, Michelle studied at St Thomas’ hospital and became a diplomat of the Cyriax Organisation in 1992.  In 1993 Michelle set up a private practice in Hertfordshire providing a physiotherapy service for three large GP practices, local consultants and self- referring patients.  The practice was sold as a going concern ten years later, when Michelle moved to Northamptonshire.  For the last seven years she has worked as a self-employed Physio from the Haddon Physiotherapy Clinic, where she has developed excellent working relationships with local GPs, consultants and allied professionals such as podiatrists and pilates instructors.

Whilst Michelle enjoys treating all types of musculoskeletal conditions, specific areas of interest include: acute and chronic neck problems, particularly associated with headaches, acute and chronic low back problems, including sacral disorders and postural correction.

Michelle has recently joined the coaching team at Long Buckby rugby club, and will be helping with training the under 10s team (it seemed like a good idea at the time!!)  Aside from this Michelle enjoys skiing, swimming and running and spends much of her free time encouraging her three sons in their various sporting activities.
